What we
do : Find the
domain owner
of a web site, domain owner of an email address, or the domain owner
of an IP address.

What is an IP
address?
An IP address is an identifier for a computer or device on
the internet. Networks
that use internet network protocol, send messages based on the IP address of the
originator and destination. The format of an IP address is a numbered address written as
numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example,
1.234.56.000 could be an IP address.
Where do you
find an IP address?
When you receive an email, the sender's IP
address is contained in a special header field that you normally do not
see. If you use Outlook email, highlight the email message in your inbox
folder, right click and select options. You will see the header. To access
headers with other email programs, use the help information supplied with
your email program to search for "header" and follow the
instructions.
In a typical
header you may observe the following information;
Return-Path: <jzmitholi@anydomain.com>
Received: from jzmitholi (jzmitholi.anydomain.net) 10.164.39.000
by [162.195.1.33] (9.15.6/8.11.06) with SMTP id g9D1x1M26162
for <myemail.mydomain.com>; Sat, 12 Oct 2002 18:59:02 -0700
From: "James Zmithski" <jzmithski@anydomain.com>
To: <Jill Jonezion@yourdomain.com>
Subject: Hi there
Date: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 22:18:51 -0400
You will find the IP address of the
computer that sent the message by inspecting the second line of the above
example. The highlighted number 10.164.39.000 is the IP address of sender
jzmitholi@anydomain.com.
Sometimes, the sender's email address name may be not be the real email
address of the sender, in other words, it may be fictitious or
another person's email address. In this case, the IP address is the only
true indicator of the sender's location.
Once you know the IP address, you can
submit your search here to find who to contact and file a complaint.
Typically, the IP address reveals the ISP provider used by the sender of the
email.
